Farewell to a Master
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Professor Krystyna Wasylikowa (1932–2026) on May 21 this year. She was an outstanding Quaternary researcher, a pioneer of archaeobotany, a scholar of great distinction, and a sensitive and passionate person – our dear Colleague.
Her numerous scientific achievements place her among the leading figures in world palaeobotany. Professor Wasylikowa began her professional career in 1956 as a research assistant and a student of Prof. Władysław Szafer. For more than half a century, she was associated with the W. Szafer Institute of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where she also held important organizational roles. She received numerous honours and awards and was a member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, as well as various scientific associations and societies.
Her life and work helped shape the development of Polish palaeobotany and served as an inspiration to all those who had the honour and pleasure of working with her. Although her passing is a great loss, we are convinced that, in light of her achievements, the words non omnis moriar carry a special meaning.
