Małgorzata Stanek
Małgorzata works at the W. Szafer Institute of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences and is the head of the Laboratory of Ecochemistry and Environmental Engineering. In her scientific work, she studies the interactions between plants (including invasive species) and soil. She is particularly interested in the effects of plant secondary metabolites on soil microorganisms. She is the main research coordinator of the project and is responsible for, i.e., laboratory work, promoting the project, co-leading the workshops, and popularizing the research results.
Paweł Kapusta
Paweł works at the W. Szafer Institute of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences. His scientific work includes the study of the response of plant and animal communities to anthropogenic factors, mainly air and soil pollution. In the project, he is responsible for implementing and popularizing scientific and research tasks, including data analysis and disseminating research results.
Anna Stefanowicz
Anna works at the W. Szafer Institute of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In her scientific work, she studies the response of soil microorganisms to changes in ecosystems caused by environmental pollution and the invasion of alien plant species. In the project, she is responsible for carrying out scientific and research tasks (primarily analyzing the soil microbiome) and popularizing the project as well as the research results.
Sławomir Sułowicz
Sławek works at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Institute of Biology, Biotechnology and Environmental Protection at the University of Silesia in Katowice. He is an environmental microbiologist focusing on the study of the structural and functional biodiversity of microbial communities in xenobiotic-contaminated soils. In the project, he is responsible for implementing scientific and research tasks, particularly analyzing the soil microbiome using next-generation sequencing (NGS), as well as popularizing research results.
Anna Markowicz
Anna works at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Institute of Biology, Biotechnology and Environmental Protection at the University of Silesia in Katowice. Her research interests revolve around the mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antibiotics and metals and the phenomenon of the spread of resistance-determining genes in the environment. In the project, she is responsible for DNA isolation and qualitative preparation of samples for analysis.
Sławomir Borymski
Sławek works at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Institute of Biology, Biotechnology and Environmental Protection at the University of Silesia in Katowice. An environmental microbiologist, he primarily studies the biodiversity of soil bacterial communities in response to environmental factors such as metals, xenobiotics, or nanoparticles, and nanomaterials. In the project, he is responsible for bioinformatics analysis and visualization of data obtained using the NGS method.
Joanna Bokalska-Rajba
Joasia is a certified teacher with over 15 years of experience. She currently teaches biology at John Paul the II Elementary School in Klucze. She enjoys conducting classes outdoors. Scientifically, she was involved in the analysis of pollen profiles, so the subject of biodiversity as well as pollinators is well known to her. In the project, she is responsible for educational and popularization tasks, including conducting and developing educational workshops, and consultations with the teaching community.
Jan Biel
Janek, a specialist biologist, works in the Laboratory of Ecochemistry and Environmental Engineering at the W. Szafer Institute of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He deals with the analysis of chemical compounds using spectrophotometric methods. In the project, he is responsible for colorimetric analyses of soil samples and biomass measurements.
Angelika Banaś
Angelika, a senior specialist chemist, works at the Laboratory of Ecochemistry and Environmental Engineering at the W. Szafer Institute of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Among others, she deals with the analysis of the content of elements in various types of materials, including biological materials. In the project, she is responsible for analyzing the physicochemical properties of soils and the mineral composition of plant samples.
