Our PhD students won the competition for the best popular science presentations!

During the 4th Conference of Doctoral Students of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS), organized on-line on November 23, 2020, a competition was held for the best popular science presentations given by doctoral students from each of the five Divisions of PAS. The votes of all participants of the Conference decided about winning. The PhD students of our Doctoral Study and Doctoral School won within Division II (Biological and Agricultural Sciences).

• 1st place – Marcin Wiorek from the Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals PAS, with a presentation entitled "Syntomini, or from Africa to Madagascar and back", in which he presented his research on the taxonomic revision of the genus Thyrosticta in the context of the colonization of Madagascar and the recolonization of Africa by representatives of the Syntomini tribe.
• 2nd place – Edyta Mazur from the W. Szafer Institute of Botany PAS, with a speech entitled "Integrative taxonomy in the classification of neotropical Lecanora species (lichenized fungi) from Bolivia", in which she presented a combination of various research techniques allowing to unravel taxonomic puzzles in research on the evolution of the genus Lecanora.
