Knowledge contest on valuable natural habitats in Lesser Poland organized for elementary school students resolved

The ecological knowledge contest organized by the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Kraków for elementary school students in grades IV–VIII has ended. The topic of the contest was "Valuable natural habitats protected under the Natura 2000 network in Lesser Poland", and students from schools in the districts of Kraków, Miechów and Nowy Targ took part. Twenty-seven students from nine schools qualified for the final stage, which took place on May 19. The first, written part of the final selected the top ten students, who faced sets of 3 questions in the next, oral part. The assessment was based on knowledge of the forms and objects of protection of the most valuable natural habitats in the above-mentioned districts, as well as the ecological characteristics of these habitats. Participants also had to demonstrate their ability to recognize the most valuable plant species found in these habitats in drawn photographs.

The first three places were taken, respectively, by a student of St. Jadwiga the Queen Catholic Elementary School in Kraków, a student of the Commission of National Education Elementary School No. 1 in Kraków, and a student of Elementary School No. 124 in Kraków.

The closing ceremony of the contest, along with the awarding of prizes, took place on June 1 in Kraków.

Our Institute, which was the honorary patron of the contest, funded some of the prizes. Wojciech Paul supported the organization of the contest and the work of the Contest Committee on behalf of the Institute.
